Unlucky?
Small setback this week as I took a hit on two trades. I probably could've done something differently, but that's only glaringly obvious in hindsight. However, I don't think these were "bad" trades as they did follow my setups.
I took this trade after spotting an hourly fakeout play. Betting on the downside was rather safe as I did anticipate price to breach below the previous floor as well. Price traded above and then quickly dropped below. I saw an upper wick so I entered. Price ended up trading a bit higher than what I'd anticipated so that took out my stop.
The first trade was over on the GBPNZD pair. A classic problem occurred.

While I usually screengrab from Tradingview, I pulled this from my platform because it's due to the specific price feed. The short trade was entered based on the higher time frame structure. Unfortunately, I got stopped out due to the 5 PM rollover. What also sucks is the slippage I got hit with. Rather than just taking a -1R loss, this resulted in a -3.26R loss.
Could I have predicted this? Sure? Maybe? My trade was quite a few hours away from the 5 PM rollover. I also didn't anticipate the slippage to be this bad. For the most part, my broker has been pretty good about keeping spreads somewhat tight during these periods. Rollover for major pairs don't seem to be impacted at all, so I was quite surprised to experience this massive slippage. I'll chalk this up to bad luck.

My stop loss placement was kept rather tight, which I don't think there was anything wrong there. This will help to ensure I am able to target a higher R-multiple. Even after I got stopped out, I could've re-entered and still achieve positive expectancy if the second trade made at least 1R.
The only problem with this trade was the position size. I used 2% risk rather than 1%. "The reason that this is problematic is because 2% risk was only supposed to be reserved for structural plays. Since this trade took place on the 1-hour time frame, I should've utilized 1% risk. Recall that 2% risk should only be taken when there's signal confluence with a higher 4-hour or daily time frame.
